Fight Song
Many of us are filled with mixed emotions over the Presidential election results. Some of the words and terms I have heard to describe what many are feeling: devastated, afraid, disbelief, stunned, surreal, hate, fear, stupid, embarrassed.
All in all, as Patton Oswalt said so eloquently on our President Elect’s favorite social media platform, here was the greatest issue:
I have never been one to be called a poor sport, so congratulations to the Electoral College. You have once again shown, history CAN repeat itself and allowed the Presidency to go to the candidate who DID NOT WIN THE POPULAR VOTE.
And always proud to call myself a fighter and a feminist, I chose to tell my son who went to bed crying and afraid we are moving to Canada, this message: “He may have won the Presidency, but he didn’t win! Nothing has changed YET except he was elected. We will continue to fight for what we believe is right because that is what our country is built on.”
Even an 8 year old can understand logically you don’t give up when you don’t win. Please all my fellow supporters of Hillary Clinton, do not allow this joke of a man who is now the President Elect to embarrass us for the next 4 years on the world stage OR even more worrisome threaten our country, its citizen's and our safety. We are still in the majority and now have to fight for what we believe in against a President, Senate, House and soon the SCOTUS for our rights and freedom as women, mothers, immigrants, LGBTQs, religious, veterans and any other persecuted group the Donald chooses to slam.
Let’s remember “Love Trumps Hate” and in the words of Rachel Platten’s Fight Song:
But there's a fire burning in my bones
Still believe
Yeah, I still believe
And all those things I didn't say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?
This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I'm alright song
My power's turned on
Starting right now I'll be strong
I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me
